Job Description

The Transportation Services Manager (Manager, Transportation) is responsible for the staffing and overall management of the Special Events Unit which includes visitor/conference parking, RV parking and cashiering for special events and in pay parking facilities. The manager creates a team capable of providing excellent customer service and efficient service to parking and transportation patrons.

Required Education and Experience:

    • Bachelor’s degree or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
    • Five years of progressively responsible positions including supervisory experience.

Required Licenses and Certifications:

    • Valid driver’s license.
    • Must be able to obtain State of Texas class “C” vehicle operator’s license within 30 days of employment.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

    • Demonstrated leadership ability. Ability to identify work priorities. Advanced skill in oral and written communication.
    • Ability to work effectively under pressure and to function without perceivable supervision.
    • Ability to accomplish objectives through the development and utilization of personnel.
    • Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.

Other Requirements or Other Factors:

    • Must be able to climb stairs and work in the heat and cold.
    • Must be able to work nights, weekends and holidays with little or no notice or as job requires.

Preferred Experience:

    • Eight years management and supervisory experience. Experience in transportation management.

Rate of pay: $55,412.00 - $71,219.30


    • Responsible for the Special Events Unit budget. Reviews expenses and forecasts trends. Maintains audit controls within the unit. Communicates budget variances. Oversees inventory reports and records retention for the unit. Serves as the property accountability officer for the unit. Responsible for creating and maintaining a positive work environment focused on customer service and dedicated to continuous improvement.
    • Conducts long range planning activities, established required service levels, and anticipates labor requirements. Assists in the formulation, interpretation, and implementation of departmental and unit goals, objectives, and policies to insure delivery of quality customer services. Promotes safety to assure that the unit follows policies and procedures.
    • Manages all fiscal responsibilities for pay parking facilities and special event parking to include collection of fines and fees; receipt reconciliation of all cash receipts; control, disburse, maintain and reconcile permanent and temporary cashier working funds and manage coin currency inventories to meet unit needs. Provides excellent leadership by demonstrating and expecting excellent customer service and efficient processes for all facets of special events operations.
    • Responsible for the staffing and overall management of the Special Events Unit, which includes visitor/conference parking, RV parking, and cashiering for special events and in pay parking facilities. Develops plan of action for special events taking place on campus. Coordinates reservations with customers to include any meetings necessary and outlining the event and timing in writing so that the customer can confirm the planning. Consults with customers about solutions when new parameters do not meet their anticipated needs. Investigates complaints and resolves problems. Initiates process changes. Communicates plan to department units, university partners, and community partners as deemed necessary. Provides on-site supervision for special events as needed.
    • Responsible for the supervision and oversight for the Special Events Unit. Plans, schedules, and monitors staff to include responsibility for interviewing, hiring, training, coordinating and assigning work, and scheduled leave. Responsible for probationary reviews, annual evaluations, disciplinary actions, and termination of employees within the unit. Ensures that student workers and staff are accomplishing their assigned duties.
    • Provides employees with operational feedback and promotes safety to ensure that safety policies and procedures are followed by staff. Maintains audit controls within the unit. Ensures that all staff in unit are cross-trained in processes involving visitor/conference and RV parking and pay facility cashiering. Reviews plans developed by staff. Makes recommendations as needed.

Persons in this position will be required to drive state vehicle to travel to various parts of campus and are considered essential when the University declares an emergency, campus closure, class cancellations, etc.
    • Serves on departmental and university committees and represents the department at various state and national associations. Represents the department at various meetings on campus. Performs other duties as assigned.
